Summer in Traverse City is truly like no other place. Paradise really is the only word to describe the unique qualities of our small town, and the summer temperatures are an added bonus! Summer temperatures in Traverse City average about seventy-eight degrees. With the addition of daily sunshine and partly cloudy conditions, our summers are never too hot, but are just right for any outdoor activity or just to sit outside and relax.

You may be surprised at how the spring and fall temperatures fluctuate here. October and November are never really predictable and we go back and forth between sunshine, clouds and rain, warm, and cold. Spring tends to be more mild as the temperatures increase, but you never truly know what to expect when it comes to Mother Nature, especially along the shoreline of Lake Michigan. So, be sure to layer up and come prepared for whatever weather Traverse City has in store for you during the fall and spring months. 

If you’re looking to experience a true winter, Traverse City is the perfect place to be! With an average winter temperature of about thirty degrees, it’s cold, but never too cold to bundle up and get outside to enjoy the snow. You’ll find that this town has nearly as many winter recreational activities as it does in the warmer months. In addition to the gorgeous and vast Lake Michigan, there are over 150 inland lakes in Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties alone. Some notable highlights include:

Most of the area's inland lakes are just as impressive as Lake Michigan, allowing you to get out on the water and enjoy Traverse City’s lake life! Take the boat out for a cruise, or bring the tubes, surfboards, and water-skis for a whole day endeavor. Even if you’re not looking for a spot with your own personal dock and frontage, nearly all of the lakes have public boat launches for easy access to the water. 

Grand Traverse county alone boasts over 69,000 acres of State Forest Land. The perfect area for any outdoor enthusiast! Traverse City has trails ranging in difficulty from beginner to more advanced and difficult. AllTrails maps over forty-five of Traverse City’s available trails, so you know exactly where you’re going. If you’re brave enough to face the elements, enjoy the area’s hiking trails in the winter as well. Although the seasons change, the amount of time you spend outside doesn’t have to. Some of the more popular hiking spots include: the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, Old Mission Peninsula, Hickory Hills, the Grand Traverse Commons, and the TART Trail, which spans from downtown Traverse City to Suttons Bay.

Munson Medical Center is located right downtown Traverse City and is the medical hub of the surrounding areas. Access to healthcare is essential when planning your move, and knowing Munson Healthcare is in such close proximity, you can be assured that one of the local hospitals, urgent care clinics, or other facilities will be available to cater to your needs and give you peace of mind. 

Traverse City is home to Northwestern Michigan College, a community college located right in town. More commonly known as NMC, the local college is quite impressive with its offerings. The main campus is home to many opportunities with associates and bachelor’s degree programs. Scattered around town are the other facilities associated with the college. The Aero Park campus offers flight school, and being located right near the airport makes learning to fly very convenient. Right on West Bay is the Great Lakes Maritime Academy, which is another offering by NMC with a lovely facility just feet from Grand Traverse Bay.
